Why do we list a range of MERV values? Because the ASHRAE 52.2 "MERV" test gives varied results. While other filter manufacturers report the highest score (even if it was only achieved on 1 of 100 tests), we prefer to offer a more genuine report. So the filter another manufacturer calls "MERV 12" may in reality not quite deserve that rating. If we list a single value instead of a range, then rest assured that is the true performance every time.
